Motherhood unscripted with Lanny Carroll

We celebrated Mother’s Day on Sunday 10th of May in New Zealand. I thought – hey, why are we celebrating mothers in one measly day? Why not celebrate it for a whole month? After all, being a mother is the hardest job we have and it’s time to prioritize our self-care and mental health. It has been extremely draining, depleting and exhausting for many mothers in the past months.

Given the COVID-19 global pandemic and subsequent restrictions we have been asked to be everything and do everything for everyone. Empowermum’s Mother’s Month is all about putting the focus back on you – because you matter. As part of Empowermum’s Mother’s Month, I am interviewing inspiring and interviewing women all about motherhood – the good, the bad and the ugly.

In this episode, I talk to my older sister, Lanny Carroll. Lanny is a mum of three kids and works at Tandem Ministries. In this episode we talk about bumpy entry into motherhood, making mistakes and saying sorry to our children, and surviving lockdown with a toddler, home-schooling two kids and working part-time.

We also talk about mantras or affirmations to get us through the hard days as moms. My go-to-mantra is “I am doing the best that I can with the time, energy and resources I have”. My sister’s mantra are “Flexibility is my friend”, and “There is a season for everything”. Mantras, affirmations or mottos or whatever you want to call it- can help us when things get tough.  If you want to learn more how to thrive in motherhood please follow me on Facebook @EmpowerMumsNZ.
